Install the extension
Four steps, about two minutes. Everything happens on your own computer and you do not need to sign up anywhere else.
Download the extension · v0.9.15Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and Opera, on Windows and Mac alike. Safari and Firefox cannot run it.
- 1
Download, then unzip
You must actually extract it: on Windows right-click the zip and choose Extract All, on a Mac double-click it. Opening the zip to look inside is not the same thing on Windows, that is only a preview. You end up with a folder of the same name. Keep it somewhere you will not delete by accident, such as Documents. You picked the right folder if
manifest.jsonis sitting directly inside it. - 2
Open your browser's extensions page
Type
chrome://extensionsin the address bar and press Enter. Turn on Developer mode, top right. - 3
Load the folder
Click “Load unpacked”, top left, and pick the folder from step 1. The dialog shows folders only and will not show your zip: that is correct, it wants the folder. DanPicBook Listening Lab then appears in the list.
- 4
Paste your key
Open any YouTube video or dr.dk programme page, click the 🎧 button at the bottom right, paste your key, and choose your subtitle languages: one or two, changeable later from the panel.
Good to know
- The dialog will not show my zip?
- That is expected. Load unpacked is a folder picker, so archives are never listed. Extract the zip first, then select the folder that came out of it.
- It says the manifest file is missing?
- You selected one level too high. Go one folder deeper, until you can see manifest.json, and pick that folder.
- Does it work on a Mac?
- Yes, and the steps are identical. You do need Chrome or another Chromium browser (Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera). Safari uses a different extension format and cannot load it.
- How do updates work?
- We email you when there is a new build. Come back here, download the new zip, replace the old folder, and click the refresh icon on the card in chrome://extensions. Your key and your saved lines stay.
- Chrome warns about developer-mode extensions?
- That banner appears for every manually loaded extension. It is not an error. Dismiss it and carry on.
- Clicked 🎧 and no subtitles?
- The extension reads the Danish subtitles the player already has; it does not record audio. Switch the player's own subtitles on first (CC on YouTube, Undertekster on DR TV, Dansk on Netflix and the others) and they appear at once. A video with no Danish subtitle track cannot be subtitled; for podcasts, use the free library on the site.
