Most children in Denmark attend the municipal folkeskole (kommunale folkeskoler). Denmark has compulsory education (undervisningspligt), at least ten years of teaching, and most parents choose the folkeskole, which is free and runs from børnehaveklasse (around age six) through 9th grade.
